VOLUNTEER ROLES: Apply to join the Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) advocacy working group volunteers 2026
Applications are now open for 11 motivated volunteers to join YEE’s Advocacy Working Group (AWG).
The Advocacy Working Group is a leadership-focused programme designed to support volunteers with the skills, knowledge, and mentorship needed to advocate effectively for environmental and climate priorities during their time with YEE and beyond. Participants will take part in structured mentoring and peer-to-peer learning while actively supporting the Advocacy Team in developing and shaping YEE’s external advocacy positions.
YEE’s advocacy work is aimed at helping young people speak up on environmental and climate challenges, strengthening youth movements with a climate and environmental justice perspective, and supporting young people to access and influence EU, European, and international policy and negotiation processes. A key goal is also to connect young people across Europe and beyond, creating a stronger collective voice for environmental and climate advocacy.
Successful applicants will serve as Liaison Officers (LOs) for a one-year volunteer term running from March 2026 to March 2027. Each Liaison Officer will take responsibility for a thematic portfolio and, together with the other volunteers, will form the Advocacy Working Group team supporting YEE’s advocacy priorities. In addition, each LO will collaborate closely with a small sub-team connected to the YEE Youth Scientific Advisory Board Task Force working on their topic.
While Liaison Officers will contribute to existing advocacy priorities, they will also be encouraged to take initiative and expand their portfolio. This could include suggesting new campaigns, developing partnerships, running youth consultations, drafting position papers, or identifying emerging policy opportunities where YEE should engage. The role is structured but also leaves space for creativity, leadership, and ownership.
The expected time commitment is around 7–10 hours per week. This includes bi-weekly meetings with the YEE Scientific Advisory Board, the External Relations Officer, the Advocacy Manager, and relevant Project Leads.
This volunteer opportunity offers a valuable introduction to working within a large European network of youth-led environmental NGOs, along with deeper exposure to key institutions, organisations, and advocacy spaces. Volunteers can expect to contribute to strengthening advocacy communication with partner organisations, supporting collaboration, and developing new initiatives and campaigns. The role also provides access to a wide network of young environmental advocates and professionals, while building practical, transferable skills such as communication, organisation, time management, and teamwork—useful for future career development and CV building.
Available Liaison Officer positions include two roles focused on Agrifood Systems, one role on Climate Justice and COP30, two roles on Biodiversity, one role on Environmental Law, two roles on Health, two roles on Just Transition and Resource Justice, and one role on Water and Marine Systems.
