Applications are open for the ACEP Next Generation Resource Governance Leaders Program (NextGen 11), a prestigious pan-African internship and leadership development programme organized by the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP). The programme is designed to combine academic knowledge with practical experience, equipping young Africans with the research, leadership, analytical, and professional skills needed to address complex governance challenges in Africa’s energy, mining, and extractive sectors. Participants will undergo a structured capacity-building process that focuses on resource governance, transformational leadership, career development, digital communication, and technology skills, helping them become future leaders in Africa’s sustainable development journey.

Program Benefits
Selected NextGen Leaders will receive extensive professional development support through training opportunities, mentorship, coaching, peer learning, and exposure to high-level policy work. Participants will gain hands-on experience in policy research, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, programme management, and resource mobilization activities. ACEP also provides a generous stipend and lunch throughout the programme. International participants receive accommodation support and a return air ticket from their home country to Ghana, making the programme fully funded for successful applicants.
Eligibility Criteria


Applicants must be young Africans residing in Africa who are passionate about ensuring that the continent’s natural resources contribute to sustainable and inclusive development. Candidates should possess relevant academic qualifications in fields such as economics, energy studies, engineering, oil and gas management, public policy, law, political economy, development studies, development finance, project management, communications, statistics, mathematics, or related disciplines. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate strong writing and analytical skills, familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research tools, excellent interpersonal abilities, leadership potential, creativity, initiative, and the capacity to work effectively in teams while meeting multiple deadlines. The programme generally targets applicants aged 32 years or below.
