Applications are now open for the 2025 Arizona State University Mastercard Foundation Innovation and Technology Scholarships. This initiative represents the third phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Arizona State University (ASU), a critical step in equipping young African leaders with the skills necessary to foster sustainable development and innovation across the continent. Between 2024 and 2030, the program aims to empower 700 young adults through various educational pathways, including in-person and online degrees, English language training delivered in partnership with African institutions, and certificates in areas such as global management and supply chain management. Through these programs, ASU seeks to prepare Africa’s future leaders for success in a rapidly changing world.
To be eligible for this program, candidates must meet specific academic and English language proficiency requirements. Applicants must be African citizens dedicated to ethical leadership and active community engagement. They should also be between 18 and 33 years old, hold an undergraduate degree by July 2025, and have demonstrated leadership and academic excellence. Additionally, candidates must not have started or completed a graduate degree before August 2025. Residence in Kigali, Rwanda, for the program’s duration is also mandatory.
The partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and Arizona State University will offer 160 graduate scholarships from 2025 to 2030. Scholars will pursue ASU degrees online with in-person support and wrap-around services provided by Kepler College in Rwanda. This model blends the flexibility of online learning with personalized guidance and engagement in a community-driven environment. For the fall 2025 intake, ASU will select 40 scholars to participate in graduate programs such as Global Technology and Development, Business Analytics, Learning Design and Technologies, Information Technology, and Sustainable Engineering.
The scholarship offers full coverage of tuition fees and textbooks, along with on-campus housing and a living stipend. Additionally, it will cover all costs related to visa applications, English proficiency tests, and program application fees. Scholars will also receive round-trip airfare to Kigali, Rwanda, and access to comprehensive medical insurance. Throughout the program, participants will benefit from mentorship, leadership development opportunities, and participation in dynamic events. Moreover, scholars will join a two-month intensive summer experience at ASU in the United States between the first and second years, tailored to their fields of study.
